We are pleased to announce in order to provide our customers with temperature controlled supply we are now partnered with Polar Speed Thermologistics. Polar Speed only work in the pharmaceutical sector so they are, therefore, able to offer unprecedented temperature-sensitive supply to meet the specific needs of the different types of pharmaceuticals we now supply incorporating fridge, CDs and in the near future, frozen products.
We aspire to make the right choices to meet your supply needs and support the NHS’s aim of enhancing quality of care for patients and have decided that Polar Speed can offer specific and uncompromising supply chain support for both us and our customers. OPS Specials and Unlicensed medicine range

OPS originally set this sector up to supply NHS hospitals only, expanded the range through enquiries from hospitals, and where volumes allowed, bought in batches to hold for next day delivery. This has expanded such that OPS is now the sole distributor for a growing number of manufacturers – certain long shelf life drugs (six months plus) that have a volume demand.
In the last eighteen months OPS has acted as certain manufacturers outsourced supply chain partner and with this has come the responsibility of supplying to all approved healthcare providers.
We have since been mindful that these non NHS hospital customers have not been made aware of the wider range that we can offer them so for a copy of our catalogue please email:
Name Change for our Host Trust

Our host Trust is now called Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. We welcome this development as it reflects the broad range of services which the Trust provides and the geographical area served.
We have long been known as Oxford Pharmacy Store, being based in the Oxford area but serving hospitals across England and Wales. Similarly, our host Trust has expanded and now provides specialist mental health services in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire, Swindon, Bath and North East Somerset. No longer a discrete geography, the name represents the head office.
The Trust is also due to provide community health services following a planned integration with Community Health Oxfordshire during 2011. Again, the broadening of services fits well with our own portfolio which, of course, is not at all restricted to the requirements of a mental health trust having been developed for the acute sector over many years.
Please note that all e-mail addresses for the Store will be changed shortly to the format but for now, the obmh.nhs.uk format will continue to work. This includes the OPS Orders e-mail address which will become:
New PMU Partnerships

Happy New Year from all at Oxford Pharmacy Store. From February we will be working with two new NHS Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Units (PMUs) offering you more products at better prices.
We shall be taking on products from both Ipswich PMU and London and Barts PMU.This will add to our growing range and the number of NHS PMUs we are working with (5) in support of the NHS’s wider objectives of enhanced quality of care for patients through continuity of supply, informed product choice and improved clinical governance regarding unlicensed specials.

Due to a customer request this month we have started adding current stock levels on all our products, click the more detail tab on any of our products to find out the quantity of stock we have in that day.
Aswell as this we have made it easier than ever to find the product you’re looking for on our website catalogue. Simply use the Filter by Category drop down box found on the catalogue page to search our different ranges. If you still can’t find what you’re looking for try using the keyword search to quickly search for the product you require.

PDIG Symposium and ATP UK Conference

This month we are happy to attend the PDIG symposium and the ATP UK conference, including taking an exhibitor’s stand at the latter. Both meetings are excellent for meeting customer hospital procurement pharmacists and technicians, strategic NHS partners and suppliers.
We work with other NHS agencies such as Collaborative Procurement Hubs and Commercial Medicines Unit. Through regular communication and strategy meetings, we aim to ensure that we are working with our colleagues in a complementary way to meet the needs of NHS hospitals. We can work with Hubs and purchasing groups to identify products and services which are priorities on a regional level and seek to add value to the supply chain where possible.

May Bank Holiday

OPS will be closed for both bank holidays in May (3rd & 31st). This will affect deliveries and result in Friday 30th April orders being delivered on Tuesday 4th May and Friday 28th May orders being delivered on Tuesday 1st June.

VAT Increase in January

We would like to remind all customers that the standard rate of VAT will increase to 17.5 per cent at the beginning of January 2010. The increase will be applied to our systems from 11 January, providing a window of opportunity to take advantage of the lower rate for an additional week.

PDIG Meeting

Representatives from OPS will be visiting the summer Procurement and Distribution Interest Group (PDIG) symposium on 11th June.
With sessions covering key issues for the medicine market, medicines and the supply chain, how industry and the NHS can work together, the new Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme, and procurement issues, there is much of interest to us.
The symposium also provides an opportunity to meet face-to-face with delegates.
New Search Options

If you access our online catalogue by logging into the customer section of our website you will now be able to search the catalogue by manufacturer and generic product name.
For example, if you type in the generic ‘Filgrastim’ the search will bring up any brand named products, e.g. Neupogen® and Ratiograstim®, as well the generic itself. Alternatively if you type in, for example, ‘Ranbaxy’ the search engine will bring up all product lines that we stock in Store from the manufacturer Ranbaxy.
If you do not have a log in to access our catalogue then register with OPS to gain full access to the customer section of our website, which gives full information on all of our products and services.

2.5% VAT Reduction

We have now updated all our product prices so that they meet the recent 2.5% VAT reduction. If you log on to the customer section of the site you will now be able to access the amended 15% VAT prices on all our products*.

New lines in Store

Over labelled pre-packs from Kent Pharmaceuticals and Farnham repackaging centre (Frimley Park) are now available in Store. These products are part of the contract recently negotiated by PRO-CURE and Re:source procurement hubs for Trusts in South Central and East Midlands. There are over 30 product lines available, the details of which are available on the customer area of our website.
Foundation Trust Status

OPS host Trust gains Foundation Trust status and is now Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
The new Trust came into being on 1st April 2008. This is excellent news for Oxford Pharmacy Store. We are an integral part of the Foundation Trust’s business plans, and gaining FT status will enable investment and growth plans to proceed on a solid footing.
From the Trust point of view—as a provider of mental health services—Julie Waldron, Chief Executive, says, “Being granted FT status is a true reflection of how hard the staff at the Trust have worked over the past few years to improve services and ensure we are in a position to take on such a role. FT status will give us the freedom to develop our services according to the needs of our patients and start to make a real difference to the inpatient environments by upgrading and replacing existing wards.”
The granting of FT status supports the Trust’s commitment to OPS and its plans to develop and enhance its service to customers.
Electronic orders

Going green with new packaging

OPS is phasing in new air cushion packaging which is user friendly for customers and uses recyclable materials.
The Airspeed packaging should have number of advantages.
It is clean – less mess on unpacking compared to alternatives such as shredded paper.
It is clear making it easier to spot small packages within a delivery.
It is recyclable. The plastic air pockets can be ‘popped’ and recycled with other recyclable plastics.
After a short trial we have decided to phase in this packaging for the majority of deliveries.

Have you looked at our product range recently?
In our recent customer survey, 38% of respondents rated our drug range as very good, and a further 28% rated it as above average.
However, no single hospital buys all of our twenty top selling products, and most only buy a few selected products from the range.
In fact, OPS stocks over 500 product lines and the range is growing. If you have not had a look at our catalogue recently please do check it out.
